AND
THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS
Readers reading this blog may say that, why the hell am
I getting so emotional? My answer is, I have been staying in Mumbai for past 23
years. Mumbai now is a part of my life. I have done my schooling, junior
college, engineering and job from here. Mumbai hasn’t just shaped my life but
it has groomed it. If I was in another city, I have would haven’t been so
successful. People around me had inspired me to do well whether it’s my
engineering or job.
My company’s vice president is such guy. He’s damn
brainy and hard working and still he parties harder than me. Few of colleagues
are that way. Even my best friends are damn brainy and credit to such people, I
am like that. When you see them, you want to them and that’s competition. In
T20 cricket they say that the penultimate over is the most important. Similarly
my penultimate week is damn important for me as by speaking with them I can
plan my next 10 years.
Cricket and Mumbai are linked like a mother and child.
I used to hold the bat and practice the same shots when Dravid used to play but
now I like Raina. I argue a lot with a girl who likes Kohli like an obsessed
kid. I used to argue with a friend who liked Tendulkar. Sometimes our argument used
to get so heated that we used to not even speak. Every Mumbaikar is a cricket
fan. During world cup we watch India’s match by wearing its t-shirt and Mumbai
Indian’s t-shirt when they play. I sit watching it and won’t let my mom to get
of the sofa.
Mumbai has given me and my sisters that boldness. When
I went to Singapore, I had even asked my parents to not to come to even the
airport. I was a complete freak. A boy in my company wore a yellow shirt with a
light blue jeans. I used to whistle and shout ‘taxi’. That boy gave me a weird
look. He said, ‘galti se mere haathkhoonna ho jaye’ (by mistake I should commit
a murder. I said, ‘khoonkya, nakhoonsirflagakedikha’ ( murder me later first even
dare to touch a nail. If you think that I am very docile and a silent boy then
my friends would ridicule you.
If you live in Mumbai and don’t enjoy its night life
then you are missing something. I often used to go with my friends to pubs,
while they flirted with girls, I was busy analyzing their actions and I had
come to a conclusion that ‘bimboos’ are easy to make a girlfriend but such
bimboos are only good to date, they can’t be a MM (marriage material). I own a house,
car etc. so friends often ask me.
Friends: do you have a girlfriend?
Me : no.
Friends : don’t lie.
Me : why the hell would I lie.
But if I close my eyes and recollect all the moments of
Mumbai, trust me they are countless and they bring a smile on my face
